14x01 The War Comes Home

There's a new intern on the service, and he's just a nice regular guy. Sam tells him he's turned up a month early. He says no, he's more like 11 months late on a ccount of he had a little trouble last year. Ruh-roh, I think I smell a future skeleton in the closet.

There's a mass casualty coming in to County on Moretti's first day as boss. They're down to minimal staff, but Sam tell MICN they can handle 4 majors just because that's the standard. Moretti is not very happy about that.

It's a Peace Rally that ended in a not very peaceful way with people getting knocked down and trampled. And guess what darlings, one of those major casualties was Neela!

Pratt and Morris weren't having a very good day, kiddies. Our Man Moretti doesn't seem to like them much so they were consoling themselves at Ikes when they were paged back to help with the mass casualty. Just imagine, if Moretti doesn't care for them sober, imagine how happy he'll be with them when he thinks they're working on patients drunk.

But not to fear, Archiemaniacs, our man Morris turns a disaster around by presenting him with labs for himself and Pratt to prove that the have hardly any alcohol in their systems and could fly a plane if they happened to be airline pilots. Good thing the paient they're arguing in front of doesn't seem to mind the drama, isn't it?


Alas for the harlots, no mention of Luka, and even Abby is too busy to remember him, between convincing Moretti he's good enough to run the ER when he doubts himself during the mass casualty and then convincing Dubenko that he's too upset about Neela to operate on her himself.

Morris and Gates are working on a young man who's missing half of his hand. He says it happened when he was mowing his lawn, but Gates isn't stupid, well, not all the time anyway, he notices the guy lives in an apartment and when the story changes, figures out that the fingers went bye-bye because this is teh person who threw a cherry bomb into the peace rally and started the stampede. Gates shows off his angst over poor Neela being hurt by dragging the guy into the middle of the ER and showing him all the injured and dead people he's responsible for and yelling at him.

Later on Abby and Moretti discover a grieving man whose granddaughter was killed strangling the guy and by the time they seperate them, the bomber is dead. Very sad, darlings, no happy endings in this episode except for Neela looks like she'll make it.

Paul Grady, a new intern, arrives. Sam tells him he is a month early, but he explains that he's actually late (I guess he was supposed to start last year). He gets directed over to Moretti, who tells him only to learn things from him. Sam gets news that there is a major incident coming in, but they seem short of staff. It's some kind of crowd rush/trampling thing.

Abby, Morris and Pratt are at Ike's plotting. Morris thinks they should all agree on some kind of sign they can use if they don't agree with Moretti's opinion. They hear some commotion outside, including ambulance sirens, and then their pagers go off.

The patients are from a peace rally. A patient comes in with a heart attack, he was 'running away' from something, presumably crowds. Moretti sends him off with Sam and Grady. Another patient comes in with a crush injury because an address speaker fell onto her. Moretti is a little flustered.

Later on Moretti suggests a new protocol thing for the heart attack patient. Grady agrees. Sam suggests they take it up with some other doctor.

Neela is one of the patients, she has major crush injuries. Moretti and Abby work on her, at one point Abby is about to intubate her. Gates is there but leaves, though he doesn't want to - it looks like he's not going to be allowed to treat her. A little later she is being wheeled away to surgery, after a little commotion with Moretti who tries to stop them going. Abby goes up to the OR with Neela. Up in surgery Dubenko, Abby and Crenshaw argue over who should and shouldn't be there. Abby says Dubenko shouldn't do the surgery, he should only assist, as he is too close to Neela.

There is a note that Moretti's hand trembles a little when he's picking up a coffee cup.

Moretti tells Abby that Pratt and Morris aren't allowed to work anymore today. Morris later shows Moretti some lab results which show that Morris and Pratt's blood alcohol levels are very low. They had been drinking beers at Ike's. Moretti then lets them continue working.

A woman called Reina was at the rally with her son, who is hurt. She says his elder brother is in Iraq and she wanted to show support for the troops at the rally. The boy wants a picture taken because he thinks his friends won't believe he was in hospital. Moretti gets Abby to put in a chest tube instead of Gates. Abby comments that perhaps Moretti doesn't like him. Later his pressure drops significantly, but it seems instead that his bladder had become distended and this was the cause rather than a bleed. Gates puts in a special catheter.

A woman has burns from trying to extinguish a burning US flag.

Another guy who has taken something mushroom-based was trying to 'calm' everyone. He thinks Moretti's tie is breathing. It turns out he's an orthopod, and a pretty senior one at that. Morris is surprised and doesn't believe him, but Gates recognises him. Apparently Gates has been reassigned, but I'm not sure what that means.

Abby gives Moretti some reassurance about his abilities to run the department. They bond. Aw.

The cause of all this was a bomb thrown at a peace rally. It was thrown by a guy who comes in saying that he filled the petrol tank on a lawnmower while it was still running. But Gates figures out what happened.

Un nouvel interne arrive, Paul Grady. Sam lui dit qu'il est en avance d'un mois, mais il dit qu'en fait il est en retard d'un an .Il est dirigé par Moretti (aprés je sais pas). Sam reçoit une info: les bléssés d'un gros accident arrivent, mais ils sont en équipe réduite. C'est un peu la panique aux urgences!

Abby, Morris and Pratt sont au Ike en train de débattre. Morris pense qu'ils devraient mettre au point un code pour lorsqu'ils ne sont pas d'accord avec le point de vue de Moretti. Ils sentent qu'il y a de l'agitation dehors puis leur bippers sonne.

Les patients viennent d'une manifestation pour la paix. L'un d' eux arrive a eu une attaque cardiaque. Moretti demande a Sam et Grady de s'en occuper. Une autre patiente est atteinte de blessures plus graves, un haut parleur lui est tombé dessus. Moretti est un peu débordé.

Plus tard Moretti propose un nouveau protocol à suivre pour les patients souffrant d'attaque cardiaque. Grady est d'accord.

Neela est l'une des patientes, elle a de sérieuses blessures. Abby l'intube. Gates est là mais quitte la pièce, même si il ne voulait pas. Plus tard, elle sera transportée ailleurs, elle doit monter en chirurgie. Abby monte avec elle. Là-haut, en chirurgie Dubenko, Abby and Crenshaw se dispute pour savoir qui devrait et qui ne devrait pas être là. Abby dit que Dubenko ne devrait pas l'opérer, qu'il devrait seulement assister, étant donné qu'il est trop proche d'elle.

On peut remarquer que les mains de moretti tremblent un peu lorqu'il attrape une tasse de café.

Moretti dit à Abby que Pratt et Morris ne sont plus autorisé à travailler pour la journée. Je pense que plus tard Morris montre à Moretti des résultats d'analyses qui prouvent que Morris et Pratt ont un taux d'alcool dans le sang très faible.

Une femme prénommée Reyna était aussi à ce rally avec son fils, qui est blessé. Elle dit que son grand frère est en Irak et qu'elle voulait supporter les troupes américaines en allant à ce rally. Le garçon veut que l'on le prenne en photo car il pense que ses copains ne le croiront pas quand il dira qu'il a été à l'hopital. Plus tard Moretti demande à Abby, plutôt quà Gates, de poser une voie centrale.

Une autre femme a des brûlures, elle essayait d'éteindre un drapeau américain en feu.

Moretti essaie d'empêcher Dubenko d'aller quelque part.

Un autre gars, qui a pris quelque chose à base de champignons, essaie de calmer tout le monde. En fait c'est un orthopedist, et il en connait un rayon dans ce domaine. Morris est surpris et ne le croit pas, mais gates le reconnait. Apparement gates a changé de spécialité.

Abby redonne confiance à Dubenko à propos de ses capacités à faire tourner le service. They bond.

La cause de tout ça est une bombe qui à été jetée lors de la naifestation. Elle a été jetée par un gars qui entre en disant qu'il a remplis le réservoir d'essence d'une tondeuse alors qu'elle était en marche. Mais gates comprend ce qui c'est vraiment passé.

La saison commence bien, c'est le cas de le dire :
entre moretti qui a franchement du mal à gérer les urgences et son personnel --> on jubile à le voir paniquer lol

et Neela qui est en chirurgie! --> Gates tiens vraiment à elle en fait lol

Même si les couples sont casi absent de l'histoire, l'amitié entre les personnages est bien là, surtout entre Neela et Abby!

Un peu déçue du départ de Luka et Ray , ça fait un peu vide sans eux !
